When my daughters were born, I was determined to fill the house with things that I made myself. This included pillows, wall and room decor, doilies, and dresses. Years later when my daughters became adults, they told me that they were happy to have been surrounded by things that were handmade by their mom. We still have some of those items saved in their childhood bedrooms. This year, I wanted to do something for my grandson, so I embroidered a piece of linen and then my daughter sewed it up into a small sachet. I was inspired by Yumiko Higuchi’s embroidery, whose work I’ve been following on Instagram. I love her use of color and her designs are modern. I hope that years later, my grandson will remember it fondly!
